KC Johnson reports

As expected, the Bulls re-signed guard Lindsey Hunter to a one-year contract Monday, bringing back the veteran for his 17th NBA season.

Originally signed as a free agent last Nov. 13, 2008, Hunter appeared in 28 games for the Bulls, averaging 2.6 points in 9.5 minutes. He also played spot minutes in six playoff games against the Celtics.

But his off-the-court mentoring and leadership for Derrick Rose, among others, endeared him to Bulls management.

Chicago now has Derrick Rose, Kirk Hinrich, Jannero Pargo and Lindsey Hunter at the point guard spot. The Bulls are going to be using a lot of small backcourts once again next season.

Good signing by Chicago. Hunter is still a solid third string point guard, and he’s a great locker room presence.
