In Free Agency on July 23, 2012 at 8:20 pm

The Chicago Bulls are finalizing details on a one-year deal for Marco Belinelli while also putting finishing touches on a deal that would bring Chicago native Nazr Mohammed to the Bulls, a source familiar with the situation told’s Nick Friedell.

The 6-foot-5 Belinelli, who is a former first-round pick (18th overall) by Golden State, averaged 11.8 points last season with the New Orleans Hornets. He is expected to sign for the bi-annual exception, which is just under $2 million. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 Playoffs Game Time: Day 11

In 2012 NBA Playoffs, Game Log / Recap on May 8, 2012 at 9:53 pm

Four games today

  • Indiana vs Orlando
  • Atlanta vs Boston
  • Chicago vs Philly
  • Los Angeles vs Denver

Indiana vs Orlando

I think I’ll be watching the first half of this one before switching over to the Hawks versus Celtics game.

First Quarter

  • Nice job by Jason Richardson curling off a screen and driving to the rim off the catch. Finishes at the rim. Need more interior help defense there.
  • Paul George has started quickly. I read that he has struggled offensively in this series. Low scoring numbers. Can’t buy a three pointer. Well, he just bagged one and he hit a putback moments earlier.
  • Nice pick and pop between Jameer Nelson and Ryan Anderson who pops from the right wing to the right corner and knocks down a three pointer. Moments later, Orlando runs the same action on the opposite side of the court, this time Nelson goes away from the screen and hits the 20 foot jumper from the sideline. Read the rest of this entry »

Derrick Rose, Torn ACL

Just confirmed via MRI that Derrick Rose has torn his ACL and is done for the season.

Huge news for the rest of the Eastern Conference. Completely changes the playoff picture.

  • Boston’s chances, in particular, suddenly look much improved. They should beat Atlanta in the first round and either Chicago or Philly in the second round to make the Eastern Conference Finals where they will likely meet up with the Miami Heat. That would be an absolutely terrific series. The Celtics have looked very good against Miami since going small with Garnett at center and look a very real threat to knock the Heat off their perch. 2012 Playoffs Game Time: Day One

In 2012 NBA Playoffs, Game Log / Recap on April 28, 2012 at 2:22 pm

Chicago vs Philadelphia

Notes on game

  • I completely overlooked that Lavoy Allen was now starting for Philadelphia. This is a really bad decision for Philly. I hate it. I can’t believe Doug Collins is starting this guy. Talk about hurting your own team.
  • Lavoy Allen is such a limited player. A limited defender and sub=par rebounder who is a low level midrange jump-shooting PF. There are at least 50-60 PFs in the league more talented than him. By using him alongside Brand, Philadelphia becomes severely undersized in the paint without gaining any offensive (or rebounding) advantage and gives Chicago a strong opportunity to exploit them (and they have done exactly that today).
  • The Sixers should be using Vucevic (10-15mpg) and Hawes (22-26mpg) as their center rotation with Thaddeus Young getting a large chunk of minutes at PF coming off the bench with Brand sliding over and getting some minutes at center also. Putting Lavoy Allen in the rotation at all is a major error from Doug Collins nevermind starting him and pitting him against a Carlos Boozer. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 Playoffs: Eastern Conference First Round Matchups

In 2012 NBA Playoffs on April 28, 2012 at 12:40 am

The four ties

  • (1) Chicago Bulls vs (8) Philadelphia 76ers
  • (2) Miami Heat vs (7) New York Knicks
  • (3) Indiana Pacers vs (6) Orlando Magic
  • (4) Boston Celtics vs (5) Atlanta Hawks

Chicago Bulls vs Philadelphia 76ers

The Bulls won the season series 2-1 this year and Phily won 2-1 last year.

A few of the main deciding factors in those games where:

(1) Philadelphia caused Chicago a lot of problems when Thaddeus Young came into the game. His speed both offensively and defensively caused the Bulls issues on both ends of the court.

Tom Thibodeau has been uncomfortable using Boozer against T.Young in the past and has often turned to Taj Gibson for that matchup. That has taken the Bulls second best offensive player off the court which has hurt the Bulls offense while Young has boosted Philly’s offense. Read the rest of this entry »

First the buyout, ESPN reports

The Detroit Pistons finalized what has been a formality, cutting ties with three-time All-Star Richard Hamilton.

Detroit made the move Monday after both sides agreed to terms of a buyout.

Hamilton was due to make $19 million guaranteed over the final two years of his contract in Detroit. He was bought out for $11 million, saving the rebuilding team $4 million in cap space this year and $4 million more next season.

And now the signing, the Chicago Tribune reports

Hamilton, who cleared waivers at 1 p.m., came to the Berto Center late Wednesday night to tour the building and sign his contract. He will be unveiled at Thursday’s practice. As reported since Sunday, the deal is guaranteed for two years and $10 million. Read the rest of this entry »

Pippen On Bulls’ Playoff Failure

In General NBA on May 28, 2011 at 11:58 pm

Some good quotes from Scottie Pippen courtesy of ESPN

“When you’re playing at this stage of the playoffs, the best of the best are still there and you have to have guys stepping up,” Pippen told “And I just felt like it finally caught up with the Bulls, who didn’t have consistent play from guys who needed to play big down the stretch. When those pieces are not falling into place, you’re going to fall out of it.

“Miami was the better team, they have better finishers and more finishers.” Read the rest of this entry »
