Orlando Won’t Trade JJ Redick

Appearantly JJ Redick will not be traded for the time being

Magic GM Otis Smith says that the team will not trade guard J.J. Redick at this point in time, according to Orlando Sentinel.”He’s worked his tail off. I see an improvement, I really do,” Smith said of Redick. “I don’t know how that equates with minutes on the floor. We’ll see how it shakes out. He’s had a helluva summer.”

Redick reportedly asked for a trade last season, upset with a lack of playing time, and isn’t known to have backed off.

“Not at this point. For one, I like him,” Smith said of whether or not he’s looking to trade Redick. “I think he can help us. The guys who’ve played in front of him, quite frankly, are what we needed at the time.”

This will be a very interesting storyline to watch over the next 2-3 months.

  • Does JJ Redick earn a spot in the rotation during camp?
  • How does he perform in preseason?
  • Is he playing in November, how about December? How much is playing? Is he playing well?
  • Will Orlando trade Keith Bogans to make way for Redick? Does Redick need to outplay Bogans first? What could Orlando get back from a Bogans trade?
  • What does Redick need to do to outplay Bogans? I’d guess scoring since that’s his best asset that differntiates himself from Bogans. Bogans is a very good shooter, a good defender and a physical player, a solid and reliable bench player. It’s hard to picture Redick’s D/rebounding/handle/penetration/creativity being the key … I’m guessing scoring is the key … but what will it actually be should he win the role?
  • If Redick doesn’t play, where does that put his trade value? Does Otis Smith finally cash in and add a piece that helps his team?
  • If traded, where does Redick go? Does he breakout there?
