Trade: Emeka Okafor for Rashard Lewis

In Trade Talk on June 26, 2012 at 11:32 pm

ESPN writes

The New Orleans Hornets traded forward Trevor Ariza and center Emeka Okafor to the Washington Wizards on Wednesday for forward Rashard Lewis and a second-round draft pick.

“We are rebuilding our team and this is one step in our new direction,” Hornets general manager Dell Demps said. “This trade will provide an opportunity for our young players to develop and create flexibility to add to our core group moving forward.”

Grunfeld said the deal won’t have any effect on the team’s draft plans.

“We felt like we needed to add some veterans to the roster, and we were able to do that with this move. … We get players that are good solid players and fill two needs for us,” he said. “Instead of going into free agency to try to fill our needs, we did it through a trade.”

The second round pick is the #46 pick. Read the rest of this entry »

Mike Miller Wants To Play For Contender

In Free Agency on June 26, 2010 at 7:28 am

This report came from a few days ago but I felt it was worth mentioning

The excitement extends to Miller, a 10-year veteran coming off a nightmarish season with the Washington Wizards and looking for yet another fresh start.

The difference is that the 30-year-old Mitchell native – who had earlier stints with Orlando, Memphis and Minnesota – controls his own destiny this time around.

As an unrestricted free agent, Miller can sign with a team that gives him what he wants – and what he wants is to stop losing.

“I’m looking for a winner,” confirms the 6-foot-8 swingman, who averaged 10.9 points and 6.2 rebounds in 54 games last season. “The last couple of years have taken a toll on me, as far as not being in the playoffs and not playing this time of year. So I’m looking to change that. This time, if it doesn’t work out, there’s no one to blame but myself.” Read the rest of this entry »

Wizards To Trade For Hinrich

In Trade Talk on June 24, 2010 at 3:26 pm

ESPN reports

The Chicago Bulls have a deal in place that would move Kirk Hinrich and the 17th pick to the Washington Wizards, freeing up enough cap space to pursue two maximum-salary players in this summer’s free-agent market, sources with knowledge of the Bulls’ plans said Thursday.

It wasn’t immediately clear what Washington would send to Chicago in the trade.

The deal can’t be officially consummated until July 8, when the Wizards will have room under the salary cap to absorb Hinrich’s $9 million contract without having to send back anything of similar value. Read the rest of this entry »
