2012 NBA Finals Game Five: Miami vs Oklahoma

NBA Finals Game Five – Miami vs Oklahoma

Elimination game.

Oklahoma are playing for the playoff lives. Down 3-1 and facing elimination if they lose tonight.

I would like to see James Harden start tonight. He has struggled with his shot throughout most of the series and I think inserting him into the starting unit might give him a jolt of life. They need Harden playing at high level to have any chance of coming back in this series.

I was disappointed by how much Scotty Brooks tried to hide Kevin Durant defensively in game four. I thought that caused his team a lot of problems matchup wise on the defensive end. They need Durant to be, at the very minimum, the secondary defender on LeBron James. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 NBA Finals Game Two: Oklahoma vs Miami

In 2012 NBA Finals, 2012 NBA Playoffs, Game Log / Recap on June 14, 2012 at 10:55 pm

Very good news heading into tonight’s game – Chris Bosh is back in the starting lineup and Spoelstra is staying small with Battier out there.

PG – Chalmers
SG – Wade
SF – Battier
PF – LeBron
C  – Bosh

I am delighted. This is the starting lineup I have wanted to see Miami use all season long. Their best unit.

Game Two

First Quarter

  • The score is 7-2 Miami after four minutes.
  • Miami must attack Kendrick Perkins. He is too slow and immobile to defend Bosh in PnR sequences, transition opportunities and in one-on-one situations. Attack, attack, attack. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 NBA Playoffs Game Five: Boston vs Philly

In 2012 NBA Playoffs, Game Log / Recap on May 21, 2012 at 8:09 pm

Game Five

A big game tonight. Tied at 2-2. A big swing game that will push the series heavily into one team’s favour and make life difficult on the other.

Philly really needs to win tonight to win this series. I have a hard time picturing them winning the following two games in an elimination setting with Boston trying to close it out. They need to take the lead here.

As for Boston, their chances take a big blow if they lose today but I still like their ability to come from behind and win the final two games if necessary. They have the talent, experience and mental fortitude to do that.

Avery Bradley is out of tonight’s game. Ray Allen will start in his place. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 NBA Playoffs Game One: Oklahoma vs LA Lakers

In 2012 NBA Playoffs, Game Log / Recap on May 14, 2012 at 10:56 pm

Game One

First Quarter

  • Russell Westbrook starts the game off with a steal inside the first six seconds, breakaway, lob to Sefolosha, layup. Way to send a message to open a game.
  • Ron Artest dribbles around a Kobe pick at the top of the key and drills a three pointer on the switch.
  • Oh my, Durant curls off a screen on the left post, comes flying around the paint, drives, slam dunk on the opposite side of the rim! Bang!
  • Ron Artest does a great job pinning Durant right under the rim and creates the passing angle, Pau Gasol (right elbow) finds him, Artest takes his time, draws the double, shuffle pass to Bynum, easy finish inside. Great play by Artest.
  • Serge Ibaka doing a good job fighting Pau Gasol for post position, deflects the entry pass, LA goes away from Pau. Mission accomplished on that possession for Ibaka. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 NBA Playoffs Game 7: Memphis vs LA Clippers

In 2012 NBA Playoffs, Game Log / Recap on May 13, 2012 at 1:30 pm

Game Seven

First Quarter

  • Jeff Van Gundy – “It’s hard to win when you do dumb things” and fouling Tony Allen on a pull-up jumper from that range (right elbow) is a dumb thing. Tony Allen has scored the first five points for the Grizzlies. A free throw from that foul, a transition layup after a miscue between Paul and Griffin and finally a cutting layup after the pass from Marc Gasol who drew the double team out of the left post.
  • Both teams look anxious in the opening stages. A mix of players who are overly eager to make plays and others who are anxious not to make a mistake whenever the ball comes near them. Tense times. These two teams need to loosen up a bit, play their games.
  • Clippers lead 6-5 after five minutes. The two teams are a combined 4-21 on FGAs. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 Playoffs Game Six: Boston vs Atlanta

In 2012 NBA Playoffs, Game Log / Recap on May 10, 2012 at 9:44 pm

Game Six

An elimination game tonight. Boston will desperately want to win this one to avoid a game seven on Atlanta’s homecourt.

First Quarter

  • Atlanta lead 5-3 after three minutes
  • Atlanta moving around a fair bit offensively but not penetrating the defense. Boston easily keeping it’s defense in front of the ball. Atlanta moving the ball but not creating anything.
  • Oh nice job by Rondo to find Bradley with the bounce pass off the broken transition play for a reverse layup but Bradley blows the easy hoop. His shoulder perhaps bothering him on that attempt. Wasn’t even close. Looked like the backboard blocked him.
  • Brandon Bass has knocked down a pair of long range two point jump shots. Good sign for Boston. He has struggled in this series. Struggled with his shot, struggled with defensive rotations and struggled on the backboards.
  • Atlanta lead 12-11 after the midway point in the quarter. Josh Smith just made a pair of baskets. A long jumper and an offensive rebound / tap in to give them that one point lead. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 Playoffs Game Five: Memphis vs LA Clippers

In 2012 NBA Playoffs, Game Log / Recap on May 9, 2012 at 10:52 pm

Game Five

Elimination game. Do or die for the Memphis Grizzlies tonight.

First Quarter

  • Marc Gasol knocks down a catch and shoot from the left elbow as DeAndre Jordan is reluctant to close out. Z-Bo was posting up on the left block with Griffin fronting him. Jordan was more concerned with the high-low pass and conceding a layup to Randolph than giving up the open midrange jumper. Next possession, Gasol left elbow to Randolph left block again, muscles it up and over Griffin, off glass, good.
  • Randy Foye and Caron Butler have made a pair of three pointers to give LAC a 6-4 lead.
  • Caron Butler left wing, drives baseline, pump fakes, Gay bites, Butler draws the contact and the foul. Smart play by Butler. He has played very well since returning (unexpectedly) from his game one injury. Has given the Clippers a major lift. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 Playoffs Game Time: Day 11

In 2012 NBA Playoffs, Game Log / Recap on May 8, 2012 at 9:53 pm

Four games today

  • Indiana vs Orlando
  • Atlanta vs Boston
  • Chicago vs Philly
  • Los Angeles vs Denver

Indiana vs Orlando

I think I’ll be watching the first half of this one before switching over to the Hawks versus Celtics game.

First Quarter

  • Nice job by Jason Richardson curling off a screen and driving to the rim off the catch. Finishes at the rim. Need more interior help defense there.
  • Paul George has started quickly. I read that he has struggled offensively in this series. Low scoring numbers. Can’t buy a three pointer. Well, he just bagged one and he hit a putback moments earlier.
  • Nice pick and pop between Jameer Nelson and Ryan Anderson who pops from the right wing to the right corner and knocks down a three pointer. Moments later, Orlando runs the same action on the opposite side of the court, this time Nelson goes away from the screen and hits the 20 foot jumper from the sideline. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 Playoffs Game Four: LA Clippers vs Memphis

In Game Log / Recap on May 8, 2012 at 1:05 am

Game Time

I missed the weekend’s games but I heard the Clippers had a strong fourth quarter comeback (after a dominant Memphis third quarter) and win against the Grizzlies in Game Three spearheaded by the fantastic Chris Paul.

This is a big game for Memphis. They don’t want to go down 3-1 and they need to show a response after the Clippers displays of fortitude to win games one and three.

First Quarter

  • Caron Butler with a one dribble left and pull up jumper along the baseline from 17 feet to put the Clippers on the scoreboard. The score is 6-2 Memphis, 8-2 Memphis as Z-Bo gets the putback off of M.Gasol’s missed jump-shot. 10-2 after a Rudy Gay transition layup. Good start by Memphis and it draws an early timeout out of LA.
  • The Clippers go on a 6-2 run to cut the lead in half. They started off with a pair of FTs from Randy Foye, then a cut and dunk from the weakside off the PnR from Chris Paul and finally a transition basket (contested lay in) from Caron Butler again. Butler leading the way for LAC early on. Showing great desire and toughness. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 Playoffs Game Three: Dallas vs Oklahoma

In Game Log / Recap on May 3, 2012 at 11:04 pm

Game Three

A massive game tonight. A must win for Dallas.

First Quarter

  • Oklahoma start off strongly and build a 6-0 lead. An offensive rebound and tip in for Ibaka. A turnover with Westbrook playing the passing lanes and then splitting a pair at the line after drawing a foul on Marion in transition. Then Durant nailed a three in semi-transition.
  • Perk gets called for a goal-tend there as he tried to help on Dirk’s low post (right block) spinning baseline off glass move against Ibaka. Perk has looked very active defensively so far. Made a nice play altering Kidd’s driving layup a moment earlier.
  • Durant nails his second three pointer. Only three minutes in. Next possession, high post right wing, posts up, defense hovers over, Westbrook who was dribbling down the right side of the court prior to the pass flares out to the top of the key, wide open, Durant finds him, jumper on the way, misses. Nice job by Durant to draw defensive attention and get his teammate an open look though. Read the rest of this entry »
