The Denver Post reports
The Nuggets got their guy. Now they got their other guy.
Almost a week after they re-signed Nene, the Nuggets and Arron Afflalo agreed on terms of a new contract — for five years and as much as $43 million, an NBA source said — that will keep one of the league’s budding shooting guards in Denver.
Afflalo, 26, averaged 12.6 points last season while showcasing gritty defense and intensity. Nuggets coach George Karl has called Afflalo one of the favorite players he’s ever coached.
That is a pricey contract for Afflalo. $8.5 million per annum for a max duration (5 years).
I don’t like paying that much for solid but unexceptional talent … especially when your squad’s core is in such poor shape. It really limits your flexibility to make moves going forward.
Denver is spending their way into mediocrity.
