Ron Tillery reports
The Grizzlies’ already undermanned frontcourt now must endure an unexpected and potentially devastating loss.
Forward Darrell Arthur left practice Sunday morning with what was believed to be a torn right Achilles and the fear is that he might be lost for the entire 2011-12 season, according to sources with knowledge of situation.
But this is the second time a serious injury will curtail Arthur’s career. He missed four months during the 2009-10 season because of surgery to repair a partially torn right pectoral muscle.
Arthur’s absence leaves Randolph as the Grizzlies’ only power forward under contract. The team is also without a center to backup Marc Gasol because reserve Hamed Haddadi hasn’t yet received a visa to return from Iran.
Massive loss to the Grizzlies bench.
Darrel Arthur was a major part of that second unit last season and would have had a comparable role this year. He is going to be very tough to replace.
