Baron Davis Heads To New York

ESPN reports

Baron Davis has committed to sign with the New York Knicks, according to sources close to the situation.

A source close to Davis told’s Ian Begley that the veteran point guard flew into New York on Sunday night and is expected to be at the Knicks facility on Monday to finalize his contract.

Davis cleared waivers Friday after he was released through the amnesty clause in the new labor agreement by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Update: Howard Beck of the NY Times tweets

By the way, I’m told Baron signed for the vet’s minimum ($1.4 mil), not the room exception ($2.5 mil). So Knicks still in chase for Posey

Excellent signing for New York.

We’ll have to wait and see what type of shape Baron Davis is in physically and what level he is now able to play at before figuring out just how valuable a signing this will be … but it’s an excellent low price + low risk, high reward + fills a need signing.

The Knicks were desperate for some steady point guard play and Baron Davis should be able to provide that. If he can give them anything more, it’s just icing on the cake.
