ESPN’s Marc Stein reports

The Portland Trail Blazers signed veteran center Kurt Thomas on Sunday. Thomas is signing a two-year deal, according to sources with knowledge of the deal.

“We’re excited to be adding the experience, toughness and veteran leadership that Kurt will provide for our team,” acting general manager Chad Buchanan said in a statement. “We’ve long respected Kurt and expect him to make a strong contribution to our organization.”

Excellent signing for Portland. Kurt Thomas continues to be a high quality primary backup center and a wonderful locker room presence.

K.Thomas is a very good fit in Portland alongside Marcus Camby and LaMarcus Aldridge. His physical toughness and post defense gives the Blazers something different to Camby’s length and shot-blocking. Plus, Thomas’ midrange jump shot will be a nice weapon alongside Aldridge.
