Hawks Keep Jason Collins

Adrian Wojnarowski reports

Free agent forward Jason Collins will return to the Atlanta Hawks with a one-year deal, a league source tells Yahoo! Sports.

Excellent signing for Atlanta.

Jason Collins was a hugely valuable third string center last season. Given the role Collins played in the playoffs and as an occasional starter during the season, Collins was the most valuable third string center in the league.

Jason Collins brings a valuable skill-set to the table for Atlanta. He has legitimate size for a center. Is a physical presence in the low post and a smart team defender.

That skill-set gives them a completely different option from the undersized starting center Al Horford and their primary backup Zaza Pachulia (weak defender), and as such, offers tremendous value (relative to a third stringer) to Atlanta in terms of matchup purposes (eliminating or at least limiting opposition’s ability to create mismatches with size).
