Cavs Sign Lowry To Offer Sheet

Yahoo Sports reports

The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed Houston Rockets restricted free-agent guard Kyle Lowry to a four-year offer sheet worth around $24 million, league source told Yahoo! Sports.

The Rockets have seven days to match the offer sheet and are seriously considering it, a league source said. Lowry averaged 9.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists last season for the Rockets.

Houston Rockets

I would expect the Rockets to match this offer.

I believe that Lowry topped out the Rockets in adjusted plus/minus last season and that is one of Morey’s favourite stats + evaluation tools.

Lowry was an excellent game changing force off the bench last season who regularly turned the game around in Houston’s favour. He is also an excellent defensive point guard and a hard nosed competitor who gets to the free throw line at a fierce clip.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Wrong timing for this signing. The Cavs need to avoid paying out a lot of money for role players. The core of their squad is in tatters and paying role players long money will only lead to mediocrity.

One other thing — Kyle Lowry is a better basketball player than Mo Williams.

Update — Rockets Match Offer

RealGM reports

Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey announced via his Twitter feed on Wednesday that the Rockets would be matching the four-year, $24 million offer the Cavaliers signed Lowry to on Tuesday night.Houston had a week to consider matching the offer but barely took 12 hours.

Nice signing for Houston. Kyle Lowry was a very valuable role player for the Rockets last season and is a good signing on a four year deal.

I also read somewhere that that final season, the fourth year, will be a team option. That would be great if true.

  1. Good for Cavs. It’s about time they started picking things up and get over Lebron James and his era at Cleveland.
