Yahoo Sports reports

Manu Ginobili says he will not play for his native Argentina this summer at the world championships in Turkey. The San Antonio Spurs guard said Friday he is skipping the tournament because his wife is scheduled to give birth to twins next month, and because he wants to stay healthy.

The 32-year-old spent the last two summers recovering from ankle injuries. Ginobili said he was looking forward to his first good preseason with the Spurs in two years.

That is great news for the San Antonio Spurs.

  1. Hi Dave,

This has to be a sad news for me considering that without him, our chances will decrease dramatically in the World Championship. It’s always hard to imagine the National Team without as for years he has been the heart and soul of the team.

Perhaps it’s time for the National Team to start learning and cope on life without him because like it or not, Manu’s 32 now and there is just so much his body can take. Now’s the time for others to step and take the mantle from him.

But I understand his decision 100% and I’m truly behind him on this. Despite the many things that he has achieved in his lifetime, I’m sure all those is NOTHING compared to what he is about to experience in the next few months, with the birth of his twins babies and the journey into fatherhood.

With this question already answered, I believe he can put his full attention on helping the Spurs in their run for another Championship.

Amazing enough, he had a great outing in Game 3 against the Mavs despite playing with a BROKEN NOSE!
