Ratliff To Charlotte

Adrian Wojnarowski reports

The Spurs have traded Theo Ratliff to Charlotte, source tells Y! Sports.

Not sure why either team is making this transaction. The Spurs need Ratliff for depth up front while the Bobcats already have Tyson Chandler + Nazr Mohammed + DeSagana Diop ahead of Ratliff in the rotation at center.

We’ll have to wait for more information.

Update: Strictly a salary dump for the Spurs who were over $10 million above the salary cap. This trade will save them roughly $1.7 million after accounting for the salary + luxury tax savings.

Update: The Bobcats sent San Antonio a heavily protected 2016 second round draft choice. Unlikely that that pick ever makes it’s way to San Antonio.

Spurs Big Man rotation

The Spurs first choice big men are Tim Duncan + DeJuan Blair + Antonio McDyess + Matt Bonner. They have Ian Mahinmi as an insurance policy.

Theo Ratliff would have played ahead of Mahinmi if required.

So let’s hope San Antonio doesn’t end up short a big man through injury. Not much depth.
