Celtics Closing In On Nate Robinson

The Boston Herald reports

According to multiple sources, the Celtics and Knicks are close to a deal that would bring guard Nate Robinson to the Celts, possibly in exchange for Eddie House.

A league source, as well as a Knicks source, said yesterday that both sides still have interest in the deal that has been discussed in the past month. Two sources in Sacramento, where the Celts played the Kings last night, verified the interest from both sides.

The Celts have narrowed their positional need to a backup point guard who can defend. They have until tomorrow’s trade deadline to fill that need.

Apparently, Danny Ainge is very interested in bringing in a replacement backup point guard for Eddie House. Ainge and Doc Rivers have both said that they like Marquis Daniels’ ball handling and passing ability but neither consider him a point guard. A wing who can take some of the load off a point rather than a point-forward type. House’s decline + poor play this season has made the backup guard spot Boston’s weakest in the rotation.

Meanwhile, Mike D’Antoni is feeling nostalgic over Eddie House’s time with Phoenix and would like to have another capable point guard on the roster. He hasn’t been enamored with Nate Robinson’s play or Toney Douglas’ play at that position this season. Personally, I think he’s overrating House both in the present tense (current capabilities) and his time in Phoenix (the dreadful playoffs).

Anyway, Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting via Alan Hahn on Twitter that the deal isn’t official yet but it is done. Likely completed tomorrow. The parties involved are Eddie House + a 2nd round pick in exchange for Nate Robinson. If accurate, this would be a steal for Boston and a bad trade for New York.

Update: Hahn is now reporting that the deal is close but no specifics are finalized yet.

Update: Alan Hahn reports the finalized deal

Nate Robinson trade official: Nate and Marcus Landry for Eddie House, JR Giddens and Bill Walker.

Boston just lost it’s only two prospects on the bench. Neither was up to much and they had already given up Giddens. So not a great loss.

I don’t see Marcus Landry as a useful player for the Celtics.
