Charlotte Signs Flip Murray

ESPN reports

Free-agent guard Flip Murray has reached an agreement in principle to join the Charlotte Bobcats, according to NBA front-office sources.

Murray and the Bobcats have a one-year deal at the NBA’s bi-annual exception of $1.99 million, with a formal signing forthcoming as early as Friday, sources said.

Murray’s agent, Mark Termini, confirmed the deal when reached Thursday night by ESPN.com.

What the hell?

Thoughts

Charlotte Bobcats

Why in the world are the Bobcats signing Flip Murray? And, why, why are they giving him $2 million do so?

  • Point guards — Raymond Felton + DJ Augustin
  • Off Guards — Raja Bell + Gerald Henderson
  • Small Forwards — Gerald Wallace + Vladamir Radmanovic + Derrick Brown

Where exactly are Flip’s minutes coming from?

  • Murray is only a fifth guard in the rotation … he’ll play emergency minutes.

This signing makes no sense to me. So now the Bobcats have upped their salaries to $63.5 million in order to struggle to a .500 season and sure first round playoff loss? And has hardly any potential beyond that within the current roster … and they’re hemorrhaging $15-20 million a year in losses? What is this team doing?

Oh yeah, and it’s two seasons later and the Bobcats still have no backup power forward. Seriously, Juwan Howard has been their best backup four … that’s pathetic … What’s the management doing down there?

Flip’s Agent

By the way, I think Flip Murray’s agent should be fired for not putting his client in a situation where he can play 16-22 minutes a night next season.

Especially after Flip playing as well as he did last season. This, being a third string point guard, will wipe out all his progress and land him right back where he was 18 months ago … a journeyman who has no idea where his next paycheck will come from.
