The Star Telegram reports

The Mavericks are set to retain the services of James Singleton, who is expected to accept their qualifying offer and sign his contract today or Tuesday, a pair of NBA sources said.

Singleton averaged 5.1 points and 4 rebounds last season, but improved as the year went along as he recovered from serious knee surgery.

The 6-8 Singleton also played four different positions during the course of the season and showed 3-point shooting range in addition to being a solid rebounder.

Singleton had been weighing his options since receiving the Mavericks’ qualifying offer, which is for $1.09 million. The league minimum for a player entering his fourth season is $884,000.

Good deal for Dallas — I didn’t see much of Singleton last season, but his stats are very impressive and I’ve heard lots of good reports about his play. He sounds like a bargain at that price.

Dallas now have 17 guaranteed contracts on their books … so more roster moves are still to come. There’s a lot of trade rumours about Greg Buckner and his partially guaranteed contract at the moment.

ESPN adds

“We are excited to bring James back into the fold for next season,” said Donnie Nelson, the team’s president of basketball operations. “His tireless work ethic and locker-room presence were a large part of our success last year.”
