Game Time: Dallas vs Los Angeles

In Game Log / Recap on November 12, 2008 at 4:09 am

This is an exciting matchup

Tonight is a test game for the Lakers, well more specifically for Pau Gasol and the Gasol-Bynum tandem. Before the season Phil Jackson amongst others voiced concerns about how well their big lineup would do against perimeter orientated bigs, guys who can shoot or drive, and also players who are mobile+quick. If Gasol does poorly we’ll see a lot of Lamar Odom.

Ah, terrible news before the game starts, I was hoping Josh Howard would be playing tonight but he isn’t ready to return yet. That leaves Dallas without their second best player. This is going to make the game a lot tougher for Dallas.

First Quarter

  • Oops misjudged the start of this one. Five minutes into the game. Dallas are ahead 14-10. No idea how the game is going so far.
  • Dallas ahead 17-10
  • Commentators say that the Mavericks are on a 13-0 run and that the Lakers have not scored for three minutes
  • Green makes two FTs, now 19-10.
  • Gasol has to force it to beat the shot clock, baby hook, miss
  • Dallas try to run, don’t get it an easy shot but they’re into their offense quickly, high screen and roll right wing, Terry crosses over and goes baseline away from the screen, takes it to the rim, fouled by Bynum. Terry makes two. Lamar Odom enters the game, Bynum has two. The Commentators have said that Bynum has been very good early in the game, active around the rim.
  • Kobe nails the catch and shoot off the down screen. Gerald Green lagging behind giving Kobe an easy shot.
  • Turnover, Fisher leads the break, hands it off to Kobe at the last moment, Kobe lays it in, plus the foul.
  • Bass enters the game
  • Dallas ahead 21-15
  • Terry pulls up from 15 feet off the dribble penetration, misses, Dampier offensive rebound and putback
  • Kobe dancing on Green at the top of the key, Green doing well to contest it, Kobe took a tough fallaway J needlessly from 19 feet out top of the key, miss
  • Kobe coming up court, nice crossovers to freeze the defender as he hits the three point line left wing, drives middle, draws the foul. He makes two at the line.
  • Jerry Stackhouse enters for Jason Kidd.
  • Dallas almost turn it over, Stackhouse saves it. Carlisle calls a timeout after that horrible start to the possession.
  • Four minutes to play in the first quarter
  • Green with a nice drive, Fisher gets a piece of it and knocks it loose, turnover. Fisher runs the break the other way, nicely timed pass to Gasol, easy dunk
  • Stackhouse has to force it at the end of the shot clock, Green tracks down the loose ball. Refs call a timeout. Green is bleeding, split lip. Good hustle play from Green. Kidd about to check in. Dirk checked in for Green.
  • Mavs going big now with Diop, Dirk and Bass in the frontcourt. Stack and Terry in the backcourt. No wait. Dirk stays out, Kidd comes in for Green. Dirk will be in in a moment. Coaches are only allowed sub the bleeding player when the refs call a timeout in this scenario.
  • Ariza in the corner, makes the catch, open three, Diop goes out half heartedly, Ariza drives baseline, makes the layup
  • Stackhouse nails a three pointer from the left corner
  • Gasol posting up Diop, turns and faces, throws an alley oop pass to Kobe who was cutting down the middle, Kobe gets to it and shoots it home off the glass
  • Ariza with the hustle play, great offensive rebound, misses the short shot … rebound knocked out, Dallas run the other way, Terry has it, finds Kidd spotting up on the right wing, nails the three.
  • Gasol lobs it over Stackhouse to Kobe again, turnover, fastbreak Dallas, layup Terry
  • Dallas ahead 31-23
  • Turnover Lakers on the post entry pass to Gasol, knocked loose, long pass ahead by Kidd, baseline shot by Terry, nails it
  • Kobe brings it far outside, he’s on the right wing, drives hard to the rim, gets caught under the backboard, has to force it, misses the tough contested layup
  • Lovely 1-2 touch passing from Terry to Stack back to Terry, layup
  • Gasol fouled, he misses the first FT, makes the second.
  • 9 seconds to play in the quarter, Dirk in for Diop now.
  • Trevor Ariza full court pressure on Kidd, slaps it loose, turnover, slam dunk Ariza. Big swing there for LA. Great play by Ariza.

Second Quarter

  • Lakers second unit in. Bynum playing with the four main backups – Odom, Ariza, Vujacic and Farmar
  • Sasha fumbles it out on the three point line, Ariza almost saves it, doesn’t.
  • Barea turns it over
  • Dallas ahead 35-26
  • Ariza gets an isolation against Terry, he faces up and takes the 19 footer right wing, misses. Should have taken him into the post, force a double team or something.
  • Lamar Odom on the screen and roll with Bynum, passes to Bynum, Bynum controls it and hits the jump hook
  • Defensive three seconds call against the Lakers. Dirk shoots the FT, makes it.
  • Green re-enters the game. Commentators said he was hot early, had 9 quick points, most of that must have come before I tuned in.
  • Odom faces up Dirk from 18 feet right wing, nails it
  • Dirk drew the foul, refs didn’t give it to him, he nails a tough high arcing 17 foot fallaway.
  • Good kick ball by Diop to deny Ariza after he split the defender on the screen
  • Ariza posts up Green, backs him down, turns baseline, short hook, scores it. Don’t see Ariza do that often.
  • Lamar deflects Dirk’s pass, Dirk doesn’t bother to get back on defense, stays in the corner, Lakers run out the other way, fouled on the layup
  • Lakers complaining about the defensive three seconds calls. They feel Bynum was within arm’s length of his man when in the paint.
  • Diop offensive rebound, putback.
  • 40-33 Dallas
  • Odom with a strong drive, pump fake, and muscles up through Dirk for the layup. Dirk gets knocked to the ground.
  • Odom misses a runner
  • Offensive foul on Gerald Green, Ariza draws the charge,
  • Bynum asking for the ball, doesn’t get it. Asks for it again as he moves across the paint and pins Diop inside, short hook, Diop contests, miss
  • Fastbreak Dallas, nice pass to Dirk, Dirk finishes on the drive
  • Diop erases the inside shot, it falls out to Sasha, Vujacic nails a pull up 18 footer right wing
  • Kidd responds with a jumper of his own
  • Vujacic with the step back J off the bounce over Kidd, Kidd doesn’t contest it well, offensive rebound tapped up and in by Ariza
  • Bynum doing a great job boxing out Diop and winning the rebound for LA
  • Turnover … Kidd pushes it upcourt, passes to Stackhouse, he takes it to Bynum, Bynum tries to block it, foul.
  • Timeout
  • Dallas ahead 44-39
  • Stack makes two FTs
  • Halfway point in the second quarter
  • Good game here
  • Kobe has Kidd just above the elbow, he faces up, jab step, nails the J. Fairly poor D from Kidd on that possession, he did nothing that made Kobe’s life more difficult.
  • Kobe with a nice pass to Bynum cutting to the rim, layup
  • Stackhouse misses badly on the baseline jumper
  • Gasol hands it off to the cutting Ariza, Ariza takes a bounce and takes it strong to the rim, misses, Bynum taps it in
  • Terry bags a layup, nice backdoor cut and nice pass from Kidd. JT leads all scorers with 15 points.
  • Kobe defended by Wright, he makes a difficult shot out of the corner
  • Turnover Mavericks. Terry fouls off the ball, pushing off.
  • Wright’s layup denied by Bynum, blocked shot. Dirk drives left from the top of the key, takes a pull up J at the elbow over Gasol’s long outstretched arms, high arc … wow. That’s a shot.
  • Dirk strips Gasol, called for a foul on the play.
  • Gasol splits the FTs
  • Kidd with a nice slow drive and layup
  • Radmanovic high arcing three pointer from the top of the key, misses
  • Nice pass by Dampier, layup Kidd, fouled, and one. The play started with a nice pass by Kidd to Damp, catch wasn’t good, Damp couldn’t shoot, dribbled out, Lakers decided to trap him and left the entire right hand side of the lane open.
  • Dallas ahead 56-48 … Kidd missed the FT
  • Jump ball, Kobe wins it, Fisher gets to it. Clearout for Kobe top of the key, he has the left wing open, he drives left, step back J, misses. Offensive rebound Odom right block, putback, missed, rebound Gasol, putback.
  • Foul on Gasol off the ball
  • Dallas turn it over
  • Dallas ahead 56-50
  • Final minute and change to play
  • Gasol posts up right block, backs down Dampier, foul on Damp as he runs under Gasol’s shooting arm, Gasol makes the turnaround shot. Dumb play by Dampier.
  • Terry trapped on the sideline, Lakers push him out of bounds, they had the turnover, no need to force it like that and give up a foul. Terry gets two freebies at the line. He has 17 points in 21 minutes.
  • 38 seconds to play in the half
  • Kobe brings it upcourt, he crosses over Wright easily, beats him to the left, takes a runner, fouled. That quick shot will give LA a two for one opportunity. Kobe walked it up, didn’t look like he was looking for it, just probing and found an opportunity. Bryant makes two at the line.
  • Kidd has it in his hands left wing, Kobe defending him, passes to Terry crosscourt, to Dirk 18 feet out left wing, he takes a tough tough shot over Lamar, makes it
  • Kobe blocked at the buzzer.

Halftime

  • Dallas lead 60-54
  • I struggle to see how Dallas hang onto this game. They played very well in the first half and are barely ahead. I don’t think they have the offensive firepower necessary to hang on. Right now Kidd has 11 points at the half, plus 6 dimes and 7 rebounds. While Terry leads the squad with 17 points. That’s two players who are already contributing far more scoring than usual. Dirk has 12 points himself. Remember there’s no Josh Howard tonight, Dallas were having problems getting a third scorer behind him and Dirk, nevermind playing without him. Dallas also got 9 points from Gerald Green on early offense at the start of the game. Are these players able to keep these high levels of play throughout the second half? And if they do are they even able to manage holding onto this lead? Do they need another scorer to step up, or Green to continue? Yes I think so. The second half is going to be very tough for Dallas.
  • Turnovers hurt Dallas badly in the first half, 13 turnovers to the tune of 14 points. Lakers a plus 10 on points off turnovers right now. Big difference.
  • Dallas ahead 26-22 on the backboards.
  • Dirk and Damp have 10 of those 26 boards, Kidd adds another 7, 17 of their rebounds between three players. Diop needs to do more in the second half, as does Bass (only one each).
  • Dallas have 12 assists on 21 baskets, they’ve made 21-40 shots for 52.5% shooting. They are also 4-8 from three point range and 14-15 from the FT line. They are shooting lights … and they need to keep it up.
  • Dallas have 7 first half blocks and 6 steals. Damp, Dirk and Diop have two blocks each. Terry has 4 steals, Kidd has 2. Terry has the spare block.
  • The Lakers have 10 assists on 23 baskets. They’ve shot 23-51 for 45% FG%. The Lakers have had 11 more shots than Dallas, mainly the turnovers difference. LA are 0-4 from three, unlikely to continue and 8-12 from the FT line for 67% shooting, also unlikely to continue.
  • The Lakers have 7 turnovers conceding only 4 points off turnovers.
  • LA do have 8 steals with 6 players getting in on that action. Fish and Radmanovic leading the way with two apiece.
  • Dallas are looking for their first home win of the season
  • The Lakers have only two players in double digits – Bryant and Gasol – Bryant has 14, Gasol 13.
  • Lakers want to limit Dallas’ transition opportunites according to the halftime reporter on the locker room topics
  • Lakers have held opposing teams to 30 something points in the second halves this season

Third Quarter

  • First play of the half, backdoor cut for Gerald Green, lob pass, slam dunk
  • Bynum posts up Dampier, turnaround J over Damp, foul on Damp again. Needless fouls. Bynum makes two at the line.
  • Dallas ahead 62-55
  • Dirk rebounds that missed FT
  • Terry passing out to Kidd, wide open three pointer, air ball. Man, he was wide open, had so much time, hesitated, and blew it.
  • Nice drive by Green, he misses the layup, Damp misses the putback. Green was fouled.
  • Turnover LA, Terry misses the 16 foot pull up J
  • Turnover inside LA, stolen by Kidd, they run out, three pointer Green, missed, smacked out by Damp, Kidd touch pass to Dirk, high elbow jumper, makes it
  • Kobe misses the inside shot … Dallas push it the other way. Kidd forces a pass to Damp on the run, turnover. Bad decision.
  • Dallas ahead 64-55
  • Radmanovic running into two Mavericks, Vlade muscles up the runner off glass, hits it.
  • Dirk draws the foul on Gasol, switchd it to Fish, three on Fisher
  • Kidd has it left wing, to Terry, he moves around the Damp screen twice, gives it to Green, Gerald has to force it to beat the buzzer, misses
  • Kidd fouls Kobe
  • Kobe on the right wing, Dallas stunt over to deny the dribbling lanes, rebound Green, can’t make the outlet pass, Kidd comes back gets it, brings it up, back to Green, Green drives, jumps, caught in the air, just avoids the turnover.
  • Terry misses the 18 footer right wing shooting over Gasol on the switch, offensive rebound Damp
  • Lakers air ball, Green dives to the loose ball and throws it back off Gasol, Dallas ball. Great hustle by Green.
  • Wright checks in for Gerald. Should have left the kid in, Green was making a few good plays, few bad ones too, but he was working his way in
  • Dampier offensive rebound, looks to pass out, not on, spins baseline, and muscles it up
  • Kobe misses the three, Radmanovic rebounds, dribbles out, Damp forced to follow, doesn’t want to go out there, Radmanovic gets a great look from the corner, misses
  • Terry turns it over
  • Kobe slicing and dicing, getting by Wright easily, foul.
  • Wright shouldn’t be in the game now. Kobe has been killing him tonight. Kobe is far too comfortable against Wright, I don’t care if Wright is the team’s best defender, he’s being eaten alive right now and he’s giving nothing offensively.
  • Luke Walton checks into the game. Odd substituion. I’m guessing an attempt to calm down the Lakers. Give the offense some more stablity.
  • Antoine Wright beats Walton off the bounce, gets into the lane, Bynum doesn’t want to help, comes late, alters the shot at the last moment, misses the layup, easy tap for Dampier
  • Timeout Lakers
  • 70-61 Dallas
  • Halfway point in the third quarter
  • Lakers have looked ragged in the third, but I think they’ll come back with a big run shortly. You can feel the potential in the game, the shots Dallas are taking, the fact that Dallas are ragged too, and the explosive nature of LA offensively, plus LA have created a lot of turnovers tonight – the turnovers making a quick large run possible.
  • Terry hasn’t scored in the second half yet
  • Dampier leads all rebounders with 9. Good second half board work by Damp. He also has 6 points in the paint in the third.
  • Kobe midpost right wing, almost triple teamed, forced out, Lakers swing the ball to the opposite corner, Walton misses a three
  • Dirk has to get rid of it, Wright slashing again, Kidd gets the three, Wright offensive rebound, Kidd takes another three, misses, offensive rebound Dampier, out to Kidd, another attempt? No, he slows it down, now passes it quickly to Dirk cross court, Dirk finds Damp, layup
  • Odom misses a shot from the corner, Pau Gasol with the follow up slam. Great hoop by Gasol.
  • Terry driving baseline, tries to dunk, Odom comes over and smacks into Terry. Terry misses the first, misses the second. Unusual to see Terry miss two.
  • Gasol posting up, passes out, repost, Gasol faces up, 14 footer left wing, misses
  • Green has Gasol on the switch on the quick push, pulls up his dribble after second guessing his drive, finds a cutter, layup, missed … Lakers push it back up court, Farmar nails a three left wing
  • Lakers doubling Dirk very well
  • Green off balance off glass off the bounce from midrange off the sprint, nails it. Tough shot. He has 13 points and 6 rebounds.
  • Dallas have outrebounded LA 42-30
  • Dallas ahead 74-65
  • Timeout Dallas
  • 3:13 to play in the third
  • Kidd is off the floor right now, good opportunity for LA to take advantage of Dallas
  • Both Bryant and Dirk have been shut down in the third. Lots of double teams. Defenders sagging off their man preparing to help on the drive to a greater extent than normal. Working well for both sides. Forcing other players to shoot. So far Dallas has gotten the better of it, mainly because of Dampier.
  • Pau Gasol has 15 and 8 in 26 minutes, also 2 assists. 6-11 shooting from the field.
  • The entire Mavericks starting lineup is in double figures. Four of them are between 10-14 points. Terry has 17.
  • Kidd is back in the game.
  • Green’s leaner to beat the shot clock, miss, Diop offensive rebound, Green followed his miss too, kept it alive and actually knocked it back to Diop by accident, Diop fouled. Brick on the first FT, he makes the second one.
  • Dallas up 10
  • Dallas lead 75-65
  • Lakers second unit is in the game now
  • Ariza faces up Green above the FT line, Kidd knocks loose his dribble, out of bounds of Sasha.
  • Lakers have 4 turnovers in the third, compared to two for Dallas
  • Ariza steals it from Green out above the three point line, Ariza dives on it, calls a timeout before he can be tied up
  • Hand off to Sasha from Bynum just off the top of the key, Sasha nails the jumper
  • Kidd replies with a long two
  • Lamar with a nice lob pass to Bynum, he knew Bynum was open, didn’t have a passing angle, so jumped up and threw it to the opposite side of the rim, Bynum went up and got it, and put home
  • Bynum defensive rebound in traffic. Big rebound.
  • Odom drive and dish to Sasha, misses the three, offensive rebound Bynum, passes to Odom who’s in space at the FT line, he drives left and takes it strong to the rim, layup
  • Kidd stripped by Farmar, layup Farmar
  • Green jumps over Bynum and hits the one hander off glass from 6 feet
  • Dallas ahead 79-73
  • Farmar holding it for the final shot, drive and dish to Odom, three pointer from the right corner, hits it
  • Great spurt to end the quarter by LA.

The league’s two unbeaten teams are in action tonight, one is LA, the other is Atlanta. The Hawks are up 10 in Chicago at the start of the fourth.

Fourth Quarter

  • Dallas ahead 79-76
  • Odom offensive foul, turnover.
  • Turnover dallas, Lakers run out, blocked by Stackhouse, Farmar’s layup that is.
  • Wow …. Gerald Green with the athletic stuff over Odom who tried to block Green.
  • Diop doing a great job to put Bynum off as he tried to gently tip that ball in, then he came away with the defensive rebound. Big play.
  • Bass misses a 15 footer badly.
  • Sasha nails a three pointer on the run. Fastbreak, pull up three.
  • Bynum blocks Terry’s 18 footer, turnover
  • This second unit from LA is incredible at forcing turnovers
  • Odom drives, gets to the rim, layup. And one.
  • Odom has 13 points and four rebounds
  • Bynum keeps it alive tapping the missed FT to the side, rebound Ariza, Ariza tracks it to the corner, spins and goes baseline, dunks it home hard after running around Dirk
  • Timeout
  • Lakers lead 83-81
  • Jason Terry still hasn’t scored in the second half
  • Atlanta-Chicago update – Bulls 9-1 run to get within two in the first two minutes of the fourth. Could be a close finish. Atlanta should take care of business though. Derrick Rose has 19 points, he could take this game over, great matchup against Bibby
  • Foul off the ball on Sasha
  • Kidd is back in, Dallas barely get the ball inbounds. Dallas get nothing going offensively. Stack had it on the left elbow, tried to drive, no space, poor spacing both bigs on either side no room to drive, step back J, not on, then picks up his dribble, no passing angles, by the time he gets rid of it there’s 2-3 seconds on the shot clock and Green has to force and off balance jumper from three to beat the shot clock, misses
  • Lakers miss on the toher end
  • Two man game with Dirk and Kidd on the right wing, lovely passing by Dallas from right to center to left wing to the corner, Dallas drive inside, draw the D, pass to Diop, dunk attempt, fouled. Diop misses the first badly, misses the second badly. Well short on that last FT, shouted short loudly right after it left his hand. Good foul by Bynum to put Diop at the line.
  • Kobe with the loud dunk over Green, nice drive and flush by the elderstatesman reminding the young athlete that he can do that too.
  • Lakers move the ball, Pau Gasol drains a jumper on the right wing.
  • 11-0 Lakers run over the last 3:30
  • Dirk to Stack, Stack ends the run with a three from the left wing
  • 7:40 to play
  • Stakchouse steals it from Ariza, goes coast to coast being pushed from either side on the dribble and finishes. Big play. Tough play. Great play.
  • Kobe losing Green on the screen off the ball, hits the catch and shoot jumper
  • Green going behind the Dirk pick, takes a good look from 18 feet, miss, defenisve rebound fumbled out of bounds. Not sure Gerald should be taking that shot so early in the clock, it was a solid look though.
  • Kobe drains another fallaway J
  • Terry finally checks back into the game on that last possession, for Green.
  • Kobe beats Kidd off the bounce, gets to the rim, layup and the foul.
  • Timeout
  • LA lead 93-86 with a FT to come
  • Lakers have this game won. This is over. Dallas are all over the place and have nothing going on, I didn’t think that first half was sustainable for 48 minutes.
  • Atlanta-Chicago update – Hawks up 7 with 6 minutes to play, Horford has 22/14 tonight. Horford has 6 blocks too.
  • Kings-Pistons update – Kings pummelling the Pistons in the first quarter. I’m looking forward to that contest after this game.
  • Back to the game
  • Kobe makes the FT to give him 27 points
  • LA lead 94-86 with six minutes left to play
  • Lakers coaches – Jason Kidd is now going to play quarterback, don’t play him as a scorer, play him for the pass, stick to your man, he’s looking to pass.
  • Dirk step back J, forces the pass in midair, turnover.
  • Odom over Dirk from 20 feet, misses, Kidd rebound, pushes it upcourt, to Dirk in the corner, he drives layup, misses

  • Five point game
  • Five minutes to play
  • Kobe left wing, screen and roll with Gasol, passes to Ariza on the right wing, Ariza sees an opening, flies into the lane and hits the layup, soft foul, he makes the shot and the FT. That cancels out Kidd’s good play prior. Dumb soft foul from Dirk. Bad D to give Ariza that opening.
  • I don’t think Terry has scored yet
  • Dirk has to force it against extreme defensive pressure, misses, loose ball foul on Odom to keep Dampier off the boards.
  • Lakers ahead 97-89
  • Stackhouse loses Ariza on the screen, he’s open, collects the pass and nails a three
  • Kobe left wing, high screen and roll, Kobe runs by it twice, drives left wing along the sideline, takes the fallaway, tough shot, missed. Dallas rebound, they push it the other way, Terry fouled on the drive, he puts it up off the glass, Ariza swats it before it gets there. Terry makes the FT. Timeout. Second FT to come.
  • Lakers lead 97-93 with a Terry FT to come
  • Dallas 6-18 from three tonight. LA 2-11

  • 3:30 to play
  • Foul off the ball on Ariza, on Stack, Stackhouse has two FTs, makes both.
  • Bynum has been sitting for a long time. He was great tonight.
  • Kobe takes it over Stackhouse, quick pull up J off one soft dribble, misses
  • Dirk with a three pointer to tie, Dampier keeps it alive, loose ball foul on Odom. Odom can’t keep Damp off the boards. Dampier to shoot two fouls. Odom has 5 fouls but who cares? That Bynum guy is on the bench. Dampier misses the first, makes the second.
  • Two point game
  • Lakers made a sub between FTs, Odom came out, Bynum in.
  • Two point game.
  • 2:50 to play
  • Kobe has it, up top to Fisher, to Gasol left wing, Gasol soft bounce pass, Stack plays the passing lane, Kobe taps it out according to the Lakers announcers. Refs don’t know what it is. They call a jump ball. Kobe and Stack, Kobe to Ariza. Lakers reset. Ariza choked off on the drive. Lakers work it back to Kobe far wing, Stakchouse knocks it loose from Kobe on his way up for the shot, Pau hustles, knocked loose again, Pau tries to save it, out of bounds. Tunover.
  • Dallas have it, Stack on the one-on-one with Ariza, back to Dirk, Dirk passive, wasn’t ready for that one, back to Stack, he has to force it, misses
  • Stack knocks it loose, almost steals it, out to Ariza, three from the corner, misses
  • Terry finds Dirk right wing, three pointer, air ball

  • 44 seconds to play
  • Lakers basket here would put them under huge pressure
  • Fisher lets the clock tick down, dribbles the ball for 14 seconds, can’t get it to Kobe, has to force a jumper, misses, offensive rebound Gasol, putback and the foul. Air ball by Fisher, caught the Mavs big men off balance. Dirk picked up his 6th foul so he’s done.
  • 23 seconds to play
  • 102-97 Lakers lead
  • This is over
  • Dallas to Terry, he tries for the quick two, hits the floater, makes it. Lakers inbound, foul.
  • Only 12 seconds on the clock.
  • Mavs needed a three there, not a quick two.
  • Fisher makes the first, makes the second

Lakers pull out a good win on the road

The Lakers got great contributions from their big men tonight. Bynum was a dominant figure in the paint, especially when he got to play in that second unit. Gasol did well when matched up with Dirk, and was the Lakers second best player on the night. Lamar Odom did a very good job, he was aggressive offensively and played good defense on Dirk when asked.

Looks like that possible problem with Gasol against mobile perimeter orientated fours isn’t significant.
