Periods of Free Agency
There are four periods to free agency:
- #1 — The first two weeks of July — when most of the top free agents go off the market.
- #2 — The final two weeks of July — when most of the second tier free agents are signed.
- #3 — The first two weeks of August — every year a few quality free agents fail to get the offers they want, or fail to get quick offers, and fall through the cracks. They’re usually signed during this period.
- #4 — The final two weeks of August + September — everybody is pretty much signed at this point. A few remaining restricted free agents who are struggling for deals, but mostly borderline NBA talents who will sit at the end of the roster.

Introduction To Top Free Agents
Okay, here’s an introduction to the top free agents on the market this summer.
I have split the players into three categories
- Top Free Agents: Guards – point guards and combo guards
- Top Free Agents: Wings – two guards, small forwards and combo forwards
- Top Free Agents: Big Men – power forwards and centers
From there I separated unrestricted and restricted free agents, offering a Top 10 unrestricted free agents and Top 5 restricted free agents.
