Dallas Sign Quinton Ross

The Dallas Morning News reports

Quinton Ross, the former SMU and Kimball star, appears ready to sign a free-agent contract Wednesday. Terms are not yet known.

That clip out is near the bottom of the article. The article is mostly based on Marcin Gortat’s likely signing.

Defense

Ross would be an excellent signing for the Mavericks.

A legitimate defensive presence on the wing. Allowing him to defend the best opposing wing, then having Josh Howard on the second best wing, and Dallas could create a lot of havoc defensively. Add Marcin Gortat hanging back near the rim, and Jason Kidd’s high quality help defense, and you have a nice setup defensively.

Ross is a good role player. A 15-20 minute a night guy.

Contract Terms

Contract terms are not yet known, but I presume this is a minimum contract, which makes Ross an excellent acquisition.

At worst, it’s the LLE, making Ross a decent acquisition.

Offensive Needs

Dallas badly needs scoring reinforcements on the perimeter.

That will likely come through an Eric Dampier trade, and a Jerry Stackhouse trade.

You add that powerful scoring option, a 20ppg threat, alongside Dirk Nowitzki, Josh Howard and Jason Terry and you’d have a potent combination. Dallas would have Jason Kidd controlling the show and setting folks up.

Then having Marcin Gortat, Brandon Bass and JJ Barea adding extras.

A good wing is needed (Dampier trade), a good first wing off the bench (Stackhouse trade), and this team could make a lot of noise.

This could work out very well for Dallas. All eyes on the Mavericks use of their trade assets.
