Vince Carter = The Leader?

Here’s an excerpt from a piece over at NetsDaily:

Ryan Anderson becomes the youngest Net in a quarter century. Brook Lopez is the second youngest since Clifford Robinson (the USC Robinson, not Uncle Cliffy) played at age 19 in 1979. The roster now has three 20-year-olds (Anderson, Lopez and Yi Jianlian), two 21-year-olds (Chris Douglas Roberts and Sean Williams), a 22-year-old (Marcus Williams), a 23-year-old (Josh Boone), a 24-year-old (Nenad Krstic), a 25-year-old (Devin Harris) and a 26-year-old (DeSagana Diop)…or 11 players 26 or younger.

The Nets have three more veterans over 26 for Vince to rely on …. wait did I say rely on? Scratch at least one from the list because that’s Stromile Swift. The second is Trenton Hassell who hasn’t been known for being a leader when with any of the young players in Minnesota, NJ, or Chicago. The third is the newly acquired Bobby Simmons. None of those vets should be starters and only one player should be a regular in a rotation.

So how happy would you be relying on Vince Carter?

If I’m a Nets fan I’m shouting at Thorn to dump VC before he pollutes the minds of their young talent.

  1. carter isn’t that bad dude. he wont be a locker room poison as long as the cock sucker is happy. $70mill goes a long way to making people happy.

carter will be moved shortly, apparantly there was a salary dump situation that thorn didn’t want to take for some reason. hopefully the nets get more for him then they gave up (aka nothing)…i like what thorn is doing, except i think he could have got more for jefferson. wish the raptors made a real run at him…fucking bc!

  2. Hey Raps Fan,

I wanted the Nets to dump Vince and Kidd together in a pure salary dump. That would have been a lovely move for any middle of the pack playoff team in need of a boost that possessed a decent cap situation – like the Lakers before the Gasol trade.

Signing Vince to that extension was an awful decision by Rod Thorn that he must be regretting deeply. I doubt Vince has much trade value but you never, he might sell tickets!

It’ll be interesting to see what they do next in NJ. I can’t wait to see some of those big men together. It’s like a trial and error of all types of bigs men skill sets down there. Should be fun.

  3. Vince needs to be traded to the Spurs or Lakers to re energize his career. Yi Jianlian for Richard Jefferson I think could end up being a steal for the Nets your never suppose to trade big for small.

  4. Hey Holden,

I love that Ti acquisition for the Nets too, plus they cut a year and some money off by trading Richard Jefferson. It’s given them a huge amount of flexibility in rebuilding.

All indications are that the Nets are planning to keep Vince Carer which is shocking to me. I agree that Vince getting traded to a contender would re-energize his career. We’ll see how Thorn wants this next stage to play out. He could be keeping Vince to lure a star in 2010 (LeBron, Wade, Bosh amongst many others) to Jersey.
