I’m getting fed up hearing about how Chris Paul doesn’t have a supporting cast on every CP3 for MVP article. It’s ridiculous.
This thread isn’t meant to be about CP3’s MVP credentials but about the complete lack of respect his teammates are given.
This is from Chris Broussard’s blog and I’ve read the same thing in so many places:
As the voting draws closer and closer, I’m beginning to lean more and more toward Chris Paul. His stats — as is the case with LeBron and Kobe — are obviously terrific. But the biggest argument for Paul is how he’s put the New Orleans Hornets in contention for the West’s best record. When I consider that they’re just a game behind Houston for the West’s top mark, I find it almost impossible to deny Paul the MVP trophy. Especially when considering his supporting cast.
Are you kidding me? This is a joke.
Any …… Any …. Any MVP candidate with a supporting cast as strong as the New Orleans Hornets would be contending for top spot in the West.
What do you think Kobe would do with these guys? How about LeBron? (it’s easier to consider the perimeter guys)
David West is averaging 20/9. He has a brilliant mid range shot and has added a very good post game to his arsenal (didn’t really have one last year). He’s been a strong rebounder since his rookie season and he is solid defender (surprisingly effective shot blocker at 1.3 a game also). He is an All-Star caliber player.
Tyson Chandler is one of the best rebounders and one of the best defenders in the league. Every team wants an presence like him at centre. He’s averaging 12/12 and 2. He’s fourth in the league in rebounding and was second last season. Third in FG% too. He’s a borderline all-star.
Peja Stojakovic is netting 16ppg while shooting 46% from 3. He’s one of the best players off the ball in the league and probably the game’s best perimeter shooter. 4 years ago he finished fourth for MVP, is he as good today? No but he’s close to being an all-star caliber player.
Then they have Mo Pete to fill out one of the best starting lineups in the league. He’s a good defensive player and versatile scorer (can slash, finish around the rim and on the break, good range) on the other end.
Now they had no bench for half a season, but they do have a respectable bench now (need a 6th or 7th man to fill it out, preferably a big, to become a quality bench)
Please ……..
If Kobe Bryant had that lineup in LA they’d have been a frontrunner for the title from day one. Paul has them were they’re supposed to be. He has three borderline all-stars in his frontcourt. What does Kobe have in LA right now? Everyone is proclaiming them the frontrunner in the West. His cast of characters is very comparable to Paul’s supporting cast.
Broussard goes on to say Chris Paul has nobody as good as Yao Ming. Yeah you’re right Chris, and T-Mac has nobody as good as Tyson Chandler or Peja Stojakovic behind Yao. Paul doesn’t have an All-NBA level second option but he does have 3 borderline all-stars, one of the leagues best starting lineups and a great frontline.
New Orleans have a very good basketball team, not just a team being dragged around by their best player. I want to see their other players get more respect.
