Big loss for Boston last night at home to Detroit.
Despite starting out 20-3, many doubts still exist regarding how good a team this really is. Boston has benefited from an overly easy schedule which has everything you’d expect from an easy run … bad teams, home games, no long road trips, teams with injuries and a few teams self-destructing in games they played against Boston. Boston’s 3 losses have come against Orlando, Cleveland and Detroit …. which look like the 3 top teams in East outside of Boston. A lack of quality wins has left a shadow over this ball-club. The Detroit loss was billed as a statement game and was at home … not to mention a litany of individual players making mistakes in the 4th quarter.
So how important is this loss?
Well it’s not important at all. Lot’s in the media are saying this is the first time they’ll face adversity …. but you don’t face adversity in the regular season unless something big happens. This isn’t it. This loss is thoroughly unimportant and so is the Celtic’s reaction.
As for their soft schedule … yeah it was soft but you can only play the games on your schedule. They showed enough in that tour of games to show they are a true contender.
The Celtics can’t prove themselves until the playoffs. They have two young starters, 3 top players in their first season together, and an unproven bench …. adversity comes in the playoffs when losses matter and player’s emotions get the better of them. The Celtics won’t be able to create that atmosphere before then.
It’s just another regular season game …. but C’s will smash Chicago. Chi-Town just doesn’t have enough offense to beat the Celtics on both ends of the floor. This was coming well before the Detroit loss.
The most important thing I want to see from Boston is the team not getting too high or too low. It’s a long season and they need to stay balanced and grounded if they want to win a title.
